Legs for Days

There is nothing better than a pair of sky-high nude shoes to make your legs look like they go on forever. But in summer, sometimes leather or patent leather look way too “heavy” and satin can look oddly overly formal. That’s where cork comes in! Cork is one of my favorite materials for summer sandals. It is skin-tone so it’s super flattering in a barely-there way, it’s a fun modern take on a ’70’s-influenced look, and it adds a little visual interest with its tonal texture. It is also perfectly seasonally appropriate for summer (never, ever throw these on before mid-April and after mid-September!), and any pair of cork shoes that have either a platform or a stacked heel (or both) offer the perfect weighty anchor to summer’s flow-y dresses and short shorts. My personal preference for this year would be to find a pair with that stacked/chunky heel. Beyond that, there are so many combinations of options. Platforms, wedges, delicate straps, thicker straps, clear straps (combines two trends into one shoe!), and if you can’t handle a really high heel, there are plenty of still-fabulous options with lower stacked heels. Check out these five pairs, all under $200…!

The ultimate pair are these Mika Platform Heels from House of Harlow for Revolve. They combine the cork, the super high stacked heel, a really comfortable wide strap across the front, and a platform sizable enough to not make you feel like you are tottering on stilts…

Want to combine the cork look with this season’s super popular transparent plastic trend? You will be at the head of the fashion class with this pair of Maxwell Clear platforms from Steve Madden. I actually tried these on in a store and the plastic is soft and oh-so-insanely-flattering with a short little mini dress…

Want the height but hesitate to wear even thick heels? Go for a platform wedge. They give you much more stability and are perfect if you have to go to a picnic/bbq/pool party/event that is outside and maybe on grass. This pair, the Eduarda Wedge from Schutz, has delicate straps across the front and around the ankle to perfectly balance the block of the wedge…

I know some of you aren’t so into the platform thing (I don’t understand it for the life of me, but I get it…I get it…), and these Glamorous Cork Heels from Asos are the perfect compromise. They have all the same style concepts but are much less weighty and much more ladylike. And they will still make your legs look like they are 44″ from hip to toe (5 bucks to the first person who finishes that movie quote out-loud as you read this…!!)…

Lastly, I will never leave my girls who can’t wear crazy high heels out to dry. This trend works and flatters at all heel heights. These Corlina Sandals from Vince Camuto have a very manageable 3-inch block heel and look so adorable not only with dresses, but with cuffed jeans and a tank top for a more casual vibe!

Now go uncork (wink, wink…) the possibilities of how long your legs will look this summer!
