Menswear Special: White on White

One of my personal favorite men’s shoe trends for this summer season is the return of the all-white “fashion sneaker.” Not an athletic sneaker, but also not a dress shoe. Somewhere in-between. There are a million different versions available at every price point imaginable, but I would suggest ones that are all white. Not a spec of other color. No detailing that isn’t white, nothing. Just pure white. They will work with any other colors, prints or patterns you wear, and kept perfectly clean (more on that later), they look so super sharp and crisp and make any outfit seasonally-appropriate and fashion-forward.

The whole vibe of this style is a little more LA than NYC, and they really work with so many different looks…think flat-front linen shorts and a plaid short-sleeved dress shirt, or good jeans with a great fitted t-shirt and a summer blazer, or breezy linen pants and a polo…the list goes on and on. You can even wear them with a fashion-y (as opposed to business-y) suit with no tie and an open-neck fitted shirt. There are a ton of options in terms of material as well, but if you want to be able to sport them all year long, I’d go for leather ones (white canvas only works in summer and is also impossible to keep clean – trust me, I’m pretty sure I just gave myself brain damage bleaching a pair in my own house…).

I went ahead and did you the favor of finding four perfect pairs at different price points. Want to try out the trend and spend under $100? I’ve got you covered. Want to flex your high-fashion muscle and spend almost $500 for a designer pair? I’ve found those too! Here you go…

For a mere $75 (men’s shoes are expensive! These are a steal!), these “Blazer Leather Low-top” Nike’s are fantastic. They have the iconic Nike swoosh, but in a sleek, chic fashion-y way. They are (of course) pure white leather and have a great urban-yet-fashion-forward feel to them. These are best paired with more casual look…shorts or casual pants with a graphic t-shirt or short-sleeved dress shirt with a fun print…

The next price point level takes us to $179 and this “Royale” pair from Greats. Yes, the inside lining is a caramel-colored leather. But you don’t see it once they are on your feet, and Greats are…well, they are GREAT. One of the most stylish and insanely comfortable collection of men’s sneaker shoes. Plus they are a Brooklyn-based company but the shoes are all made in Italy. Total win-win-win. Wear these with linen pants or jeans, a fitted polo or solid t-shirt and a summer-weight blazer. Such a cool-guy look without being at all over-the-top…

Ready to start flexing your fashion-street-cred muscle with a downtown cool-kid brand and a heftier price tag? Go for the $295 RB1’s from Rag & Bone. They are as sleek and simple as they come with hardly any detailing at all. Just perfect leather and perfect styling. These can go with literally anything. Their brand identification will elevate a really casual look, but you could also go to a fancy party and bring the cool with these matched to an outfit of sleek dress pants, a dress shirt with French cuffs, whimsical cufflinks, and a blazer with a little sheen to it…

And if you really want to stand out as a true fashionisto, these $495 “Urban Street Low-tops” from Givenchy are just what the fashion doctor ordered. These have instant designer recognition, and show you really know your stuff. These are so versatile that they can be worn from a casual date in jeans and a polo to a red carpet with a beautifully fitted suit with a t-shirt or open-neck dress shirt underneath…

This trend will hopefully stick around. Because there is nothing better than a guy in good shoes.
